Photography

A visual field notebook from the Grand Canyon, Egypt, London, museums, archaeological sites, rivers, deserts, wildlife, and whatever else was worth stopping for.

Photography grew naturally out of guiding and travel. I was already standing in remarkable places and teaching about what I saw, so carrying a camera became another way of recording the landscape, object, moment, or detail that made the place memorable.

My photographs have been used in films and publications including National Geographic, PBS, USA Today, the National Park Service, and other media and educational projects.

USE & ATTRIBUTION

Photography made to be useful.

I have long made much of my travel and landscape photography available for reuse under Creative Commons licensing. The Flickr archive is the authoritative place to verify the license on a specific photograph.

Before using an image, open it on Flickr, confirm the Creative Commons license shown there, and follow the required attribution terms for that photograph.

This makes the archive useful to writers, ministries, educators, publications, filmmakers, and others who need high-quality imagery of the places and subjects I photograph.
