Adventure Guide
For more than twenty-five years I’ve been teaching on the road, on trails, in museums, at archaeological sites, and in some of the best outdoor classrooms I know.
I like teaching in the places where the subject is right in front of us. Geology makes more sense with the rocks under your feet. Archaeology is easier to understand when the artifact is in front of you. History becomes more memorable when you can walk the streets, temples, museums, trails, and landscapes connected with it.

THE GRAND CANYON
Guiding at Grand Canyon
Grand Canyon has been at the center of my guiding work for years, especially through Canyon Ministries.
Rim, Trail & River
I have spent more than 1,200 days teaching at Grand Canyon, along the rim, on trails, and on the Colorado River. That includes more than 50 multi-day rafting expeditions and hundreds of nights camped along the river.
Whether standing at an overlook, hiking below the rim, or teaching from a raft, I enjoy helping people understand the Canyon’s geology, fossils, archaeology, natural history, and biblical significance.
Canyon Ministries
I joined Canyon Ministries in 2014 and later served for five years as Executive Director. Today I’m the Director of Ministry Outreach. I speak, build partnerships, help with ministry outreach, and still spend a lot of time teaching in the Canyon. Over the years that has meant rim tours, trail teaching, and multi-day river expeditions, and it is still a major part of what I do.
THE AMERICAN SOUTHWEST
Exploring the American Southwest
I have guided and conducted research across the American Southwest, including national parks, monuments, museums, archaeological sites, fossil localities, volcanic landscapes, deserts, canyons, and historic places throughout Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and the wider Colorado Plateau.
I enjoy these places because geology, natural history, archaeology, Native American history, and the geography of the Southwest are all around us while we’re exploring.

Guiding beyond the Canyon
Museums & Historic Sites
I regularly teach in museums and historic locations on biblical archaeology, Egyptology, ancient civilizations, church history, geology, fossils, and science. Museums are some of my favorite places to teach because we can stand in front of the actual artifacts, fossils, manuscripts, and objects we’re talking about.
London & England
Through London Christian Tours, I lead small groups through churches, museums, manuscripts, archaeological collections, and historic sites across London and England. It gives me the chance to teach Christian history, archaeology, science, and the people behind the places while we’re standing in them.
Egypt
Through Egypt Christian Tours, I lead groups through Egypt and teach archaeology, ancient Egyptian history, geology, temples, inscriptions, museums, and biblical history along the way. There is something very different about discussing an inscription or biblical event while the landscape and artifacts are right in front of you.
WHY I GUIDE
Why I guide
I guide because I enjoy taking people to the places and objects we’re talking about. A rock layer, artifact, trail, manuscript, or temple can make something much easier to understand than a slide on a screen.
That same approach carries into my research and writing, photography, and speaking and teaching.
